The dropping temperatures in Abilene aren’t leaving, and while it’s easy to fantasize about the warmer temps, it’s crucial to remember that you can stay just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a large role in this, which is why it’s so vital to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to bring up the fact that there are few things that will provide as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service should be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a frigid winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them warm the entire season?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a few other things you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — a lot of energy companies will provide an energy audit for your home so you can find areas that need improving. You might be surprised what areas are permitting hot or cold air to sneak out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of which door it is, doors permit the opportunity for a lot of cold air to come in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you may still have air making its way indoors. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in-tact or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be allowing cold air inside. If you find any issues, weatherstripping is easy to swap and may take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common places for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on the light’s age, they could be letting all the hot air in your home sneak out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as easy as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These handful tips are just the beginning, but do note that there are other simple fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy things to do on the weekend. However, if you still need to set up furnace service, give the team at Abilene Air-Tech Inc a call at (325) 692-5850 or schedule an appointment with us online.
