Figuring Out If Its Time for AC Repair or Replacement
As a homeowner one of the hardest decisions you’ll have to make is deciding whether your system is in demand of an AC repair or if it’s time for a replacement system. A new AC is a big investment, but so is the value of consistently repairing a system that is in need of replacement. There are a few signs that it may be time to layoff repairing and look into replacing.
1. The Age of Your System
If your air conditioner is between 10-15 years old, it’s probably time to start considering a replacement system. An AC built today will be more energy efficient, which will save you money in the long run and you won’t have to fear about being left to sweat it out during those hot summer temperatures.
2. Frequent Breakdowns
Occasional repairs may occur, but if your air conditioner is breaking down multiple times a season, it’s probably time to initiate looking into a replacement. The money you’re putting into your tired system could be used to invest in a current, high-efficiency system.
3. Your Energy Bills are Rising
If you’ve seen your bills getting higher and higher without running your system more often, this could be a sign your AC is on its last round. Look at your bill and measure your energy usage this year to last year. A giant increase in your consumption could be a sign that it’s time for a new system. As system’s age they have to try harder and that requires more energy.
4. Your Home is Uncomfortable
You’ll notice this problem immediately. If your system is having trouble maintaining a comfortable temperature, it could be a warning that your AC is in need of repair or replacement. It possibly also mean that your system is the improper size for your home.
